SG-Style Guitar Routing Template

The SG guitar template is a lutherie tool designed to make building SG-style guitars easier and more accurate. Each template is CNC-machined from 10 mm MDF to reproduce the characteristic contours of an SG-style model. It guides your machining operations for professional results, whether you are an experienced luthier or a keen hobbyist.

This SG-style guitar template is available in three complementary versions.

A centerline is included to position the template accurately on your wood blank. This reference makes centering easier and ensures proper alignment when routing the guitar body. For secure attachment, we recommend strong double-sided tape or strategically placed clamps.

Machining should be carried out with a router fitted with a bearing-guided pattern bit that follows the template contour. A 10 mm or 12 mm straight router bit is ideal for routing. It is better to make several shallow passes rather than one deep pass to protect the template and avoid tearing out the wood.

MDF is sturdy but sensitive to moisture. To extend the life of your SG guitar template, store it in a dry place and, if possible, apply a protective varnish or wax. After use, a wall hanger or suitable storage sleeve will help keep it safe.

We also offer custom-made templates for specific requirements. Each SG guitar template is carefully made to support your lutherie projects and provide accurate, reliable results. For more information and complementary models, see our other templates for guitar making and the documentation relating to each type of guitar.
