Four-piece CNC-cut 10 mm MDF template kit for a Precision Bass-style build: body front, back, neck and headstock.
Precision Bass-style bass guitar routing templates — 10 mm MDF
Build your own electric bass
Designed to assist with the handcrafting of a Precision Bass-style electric bass, these templates provide a practical starting point for professional luthiers and enthusiasts building their own instrument. Made from 10 mm MDF and CNC machined, they help transfer outlines, prepare machining operations and achieve greater consistency. The contours are inspired by the characteristic lines of Precision Bass-style instruments; they are not an official reproduction of any branded model.
A set of four complementary templates
1. Body template — front
Shows the body's outside contour and the openings specified in the drawing. Use it to:
- Trace the overall body silhouette.
- Guide cutting of the external outline.
- Locate and machine the intended cavities.
- Use the central groove as an alignment reference.
2. Body template — rear
Shows the external body outline and includes four reference holes at the neck mounting area. It helps with:
- Tracing the rear body outline.
- Positioning the neck mounting reference points.
- Checking alignment between the front and back of the body.
3. Neck template
The neck template has a progressively shaped longitudinal profile and a machined centering groove. It helps prepare the neck outline and provides a reference centerline throughout the construction process.
4. Separate headstock template
The headstock comes as a separate template from the neck. It features:
- The characteristic outline of a bass headstock with four inline tuners.
- Four tuner positioning openings.
- A longitudinal centerline groove to assist alignment.
The two-part arrangement lets you position and work on the neck and headstock separately while retaining their centerline references.

Why choose 10 mm MDF templates?
MDF provides a uniform, consistent surface suitable for lutherie templates. Its 10 mm thickness gives a good edge for tracing and may allow guidance with a suitable bearing-guided router bit, provided the setup and machining method are appropriate. CNC machining produces regular outlines and openings corresponding to the manufacturing file.
Who are these templates for?

Important information
These are construction aids, not a ready-to-assemble bass body or neck. Check dimensions, hole spacing and compatibility with your hardware before final machining. Centering grooves do not pass through the MDF. Openings shown as through-cuts are machined through the full MDF thickness. Independent product, not manufactured or approved by Fender. The term Precision Bass is used solely to identify the relevant instrument style.
